In the pursuit of happiness, we ended up in another quaint place, Lighthouse Resto + Bar. This is the home of the famed Chocolate Lava Cake. We ordered Pasta Carbonara and Bacon Mac and Cheese for the entrees. But what stood out was the apple pie. The sylvannas was just so-so. With the charm of the interiors, we were also glad that the owners are helpful enough when it comes to making sure that everything is at hand.
You decide.

Happy Kitchen
Come to think of it. Everyone needs their own happy place. This is the Friends' of Chefs' (FOC) latest space. They might have underwent a lot of renovations these years but now it is not only a one-stop shop for culinary enthusiasts who may be there for classes and shopping but it also offers a wide array of dishes and drinks.
Now tell us about your own happy place.

Wat’s BangKok’n, Thailand? #32
Yes. Yes. Thai food is
considered as an international cuisine. But in order to have an in-depth taste
of what it offers, there is only one place to go, the streets. The enticing
aroma will lead you stall after stall, but always remember the general rule,
where the people is, is of course, where the good food is. Here goes our list
for the top Thai food.
I-dtim Mat Phrao: A street
food favorite, i-dtim is a Thai ice cream which is made from mat phrao, their coconut.
It is usually topped with peanuts and there is sticky rice below.
Deep Fried Pork Belly:
This can be seen everywhere and is usually accompanied by sticky rice, eggs,
and thin slices of meat. Now that is street food.
Kanom Buang Thai: A
sweet Thai crepe with meringue and foy tong, which are strands of flavored egg
yolk.
Medley of Fried Goodies:
Yes. Hot dogs and balls sit on top of vegetables. Talk about unhealthy slash
healthy street food.
Pad
Kra Pao Gai: A Thai holy basil chicken is usually a to-go order and is served
with rice and egg.The
Sweet and Chili Shrimp is a usual staple too.
Khao Kha Moo: Pork leg
stew on rice is everyone’s favorite. Buttery fat drippings enable the rice to
be drenched with the pork-infusion. This is served with a boiled egg or
vegetables.
Kai Med Ma Muang: A sautéed chicken medley of
roasted cashew nuts, sweet soy sauce, chili, onions, carrots, and mushrooms.
Yam Nua: A spicy beef salad
concoction of lime, spearmint, coriander, dried chili, and beef strips.
Pad Thai: Thai style fried
noodles in a hot wok where you can actually choose your own noodles, let it
steam with long and crunch bean sprouts, onions, carrots, tofu, chicken,
prawns, and eggs. This comfort food is enhanced further with chili, fish sauce,
finely ground peanuts, and spring onions.
After traversing
temples, open your hearts to the offers of Thai food and with that you will
know their culture and beliefs through their medicinal herbs that go with their
dishes. What more could you ask for if you are in Bangkok, Thailand?

Durian: Everybody's King #30
Durian Garden, Atbp. (at iba pa) or “and others” is a three-hectare farm and
home of the tastiest durian “the king of all fruits” that goes with the
ever-popular saying, smells like hell but
taste like heaven.
This orchard is
different from other durian farms because it harvests a year-around and durian
trees yields an average of 40-50 fruits or an annual farm harvest of 10,000
pieces. We need to really watch out for falling durians! Each fruits are sold Php50.00
per kilo (kg) with the weighing of 4-5 kg each (source: DGatbp)
The durian orchard is
also where one can enjoy Pomelo, Lanzones and Rambutan trees that are mixed
with flowering ornamental plants. An animal sanctuary is also beside these
growing flora.
They also have a restaurant that produces
home-made pies and ice cream with different flavors such as mango, jackfruit,
ube and durian.
It is quite obvious that someone does enjoy it very much!
Yum!

Lake Lake Sebu's Tilapia Kingdom #29
When
you decided to visit Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, and you are looking for endless
adventure you should visit this place. Lake Sebu or Lake Lake is the name of
the municipality, which entices everybody of the endless bountiful tilapia from
the seven lakes and the zipline. Since it was raining we opted to have the
boating. Tilapia is the major source of livelihood of
the T’boli’s which they grow in the lake. Other sources of livelihood are
brassware, wood carving and cloth weaving, more popularly known as “T’nalak".
Punta Isla is overlooking Lake Sebu wherein you can taste a variety of tilapia delicacies from kinilaw, sinugbang tilapia, spicy fillet, tilapora and a lot more.
Sinugnug na Tilapia
Pinakbet ng Punta Isla
Chicharong Tilapia (Fave!)
Tilapora
Pinaputok na Tilapia
Also, when taking meals, we could either eat in the floating restaurant or in the hilltop. A floating restaurant is a nice option during lunch, plus there are young T’bolis performing their different danced and musical instruments. The restaurant in the hilltop is a nice spot to see the panoramic of the Lake Sebu and a lot of tilapia breeding nets. Tourists really love the place because of its peaceful ambience and relaxation effect.
This lake resort has rooms and cottages good for couples, families and groups. The basic amenities are available in every room. There is also a souvenir shop with native handicraft products display for a very reasonable price. Although the facilities are not that world-class, but in terms of hospitality, you will never get wrong when picking this resort. Where life indeed blends with nature at its best. No wonder why Ms. Melivo loves tilapias.

Blugré Durian DulcePuccinos #28
Blugré Coffee offers a snug and unique Davao coffee experience, but since we were at General Santos, we tried it as we took the cut at the Team Pacquiao store. We just knew that they are just franchisees but if you are a mainstay at the coffee joint, no wonder you will be rubbing elbows with either, Mr. Pac or Ms. Jink. You will surely not find Ms. D here because she is busy with her ballroom grooves at a certain resto.
We are not really Durian fans (obviously) and that is a big challenge for us since we made Mindanao our dream. But what makes Blugré Coffee distinctively Davao is the Gatchalian’s use of exotic durian fruit in their menu. The winner Durian Dulce de Leche Cheesecake should be partnerned with their trademark Durian Gatchpuccino (espresso+durian rolled into steam). But we were mesmerized with the cold version, Durian Larcepuccino. We will never look at durian the same way again. It is dubbed after all as the “King of All Coffees” while the obvious Durian is still the “King of All Fruits”.
We were really lucky to have the chance to enjoy this. Thank
You again to, Mr. M and Ms. A, we hope you enjoyed your Penong’s fruit salad.
See you guys again and we will be ziplining all the way.
